Tests

Register online for the THEA test.

Students who are not exempted from TSI requirements by other means must take the Texas Higher Education Assessment (THEA). At this point, The University of Texas at Austin does not accept scores from other assessments such as COMPASS, ACCUPLACER, or ASSET.

The minimum THEA scores required to satisfy TSI requirements at UT Austin are:

  • Reading: 250 out of 300
  • Mathematics: 250 out of 300
  • Writing: 240 out of 300

The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) administers the Internet-based THEA on orientation days and periodically throughout the semester. The cost of the test is $29, plus a $20 administration fee, which will be billed to your What-I-Owe Account.

A study guide and practice test for the THEA are available online.
