Honors Housing

The Honors Residence Halls, comprised of three halls in the "Quad" (Andrews, Blanton, and Carothers), houses approximately 500 men and women who participate in one of UT Austin's undergraduate honors programs (Business Honors, Dean's Scholars, Engineering Honors, Liberal Arts Honors, Plan II and Turing Scholars).

Assignments to the hall are conducted jointly between the Division of Housing and Food Service and the honors programs around campus. Living with other honors students from myriad disciplines guarantees many opportunities for lively conversation and assures a stimulating living and learning environment. To be considered for assignment in the honors hall, prospective students should apply for housing early in their senior year of high school, and should submit an application to one or more of the honors programs listed above. Occasionally, students not in one of these programs, but who have outstanding academic records from other disciplines, may be considered for assignment to the honors hall. Interested students may list the honors hall as a choice once they receive a housing contract. However, most spaces are allocated to students in one of the academic honors programs.

Residents of the Honors Residence halls enjoy the convenience of living in heart of the UT campus, with particularly close access to the Peter T. Flawn Academic Center, the Texas Union and the Student Services Building. Additionally, a stop for the Forty Acres shuttle bus, a circular route which runs around the entire campus frequently, is conveniently located close to the residence halls, providing speedy travel to all other areas of campus.

Hall Features

Each double room features moveable, bunkable beds, spacious desks with attached hutch, an Ethernet connection for each student, and most rooms feature a built-in sink. All three halls are connected together, and surround a large, wooded courtyard, which is the perfect place for a game of frisbee, a lively conversation, or quiet reflection. Additionally, each hall features its own sundeck, which provide striking views of campus, and are a fun place to just hang out.

Each individual hall contains a spacious, appointed, living room that gives residents a place to take a break from a stressful day, talk and relax with friends, or study quietly. A baby grand piano is also provided in each living room for those who wish to strike up or just listen to a musical tune.

The hall's intimate, yet intriguing setting provides many open areas for group activities or individual study. Whether in the bright sunroom of Carothers, the large multi-purpose room on the bottom of Andrews, or in a cozy nook in Blanton, there is definitely a niche for whatever your needs are in the halls.

The University Honors Center is located in the basement of Carothers Residence Hall, and acts a hub for all honors activities around campus. However, residents will enjoy the advantages of living in close proximity to this office for the programs and support it provides.

The Quad Computer Lab provides its residents an alternative to the often-filled UGL computer lab. The machines here are constantly upgraded to ensure that students can utilize the latest hardware and software. From publishing a paper, to creating a Web site, to writing some code, you can do it in the computer lab.

Honors Residence Halls are conveniently located near the Kinsolving dining center, offering "all-you-care-to-eat" meals, as well as Kin's Corner snack bar, which is perfect for a quick meal on the run. Also nearby is the Littlefield Patio Cafe, which is located on the bottom floor of Littlefield Residence Hall, directly adjacent the Honors Residence Halls. This eatery features breakfast tacos, coffee, sandwiches, wraps and many other options such as pizza, pasta, fresh fruit, salads, and smoothies. A large, shady outdoor patio provides the perfect place to enjoy a meal, or just relax outside.
