On behalf of the Alpha of Texas chapter, it is our pleasure to invite you to become a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest and most prestigious honor society in the United States. This invitation is made on the basis of your distinguished academic record at The University of Texas at Austin. Congratulations on your achievements as an undergraduate and on your election to membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
By accepting, you join a community of colleagues from across the country who have earned equally high academic honors at the leading colleges and universities in the United States. Whatever profession you pursue, whether academic or otherwise, you will meet members of Phi Beta Kappa who are still inspired by the same love of learning which has characterized your career so far.
We hope you decide to accept our invitation and start to enjoy the society’s distinguished fellowship. Please visit the Phi Beta Kappa website and follow the instructions for completing your registration. Your passcode is alphatx. Be sure to designate The University of Texas at Austin (UTA-TX-A) as your chapter. The one-time membership fee is $100 and covers all local and national membership expenses, as well as a lifetime subscription to The Key Reporter.
Since its founding in 1776 at the College of William and Mary, Phi Beta Kappa has recognized not only students with distinctive intellectual capacities, but also students who have undertaken especially ambitious courses of study in the liberal arts and sciences. Since 1905, the Alpha of Texas chapter has honored University of Texas at Austin students who do more than excel.
Students who join will be honored at our Phi Beta Kappa initiation and reception at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2012, in the Lonestar Room of the Erwin Center on The University of Texas at Austin campus. New members and two additional guests may attend at no additional cost. Please RSVP by May 2,2012.
As a member of Phi Beta Kappa you are eligible for a number of national and local of scholarships. You will also have the opportunity to nominate a professor for the Alpha of Texas Award for Distinction in Teaching. Scholarship applications are available at the chapter awards page.
If you have any questions about the Alpha of Texas Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, please visit the chapter website. As you consider our invitation to join Phi Beta Kappa, we greatly encourage you to discuss the rewards of membership with your faculty adviser or mentor, and invite you to contact us at PBK@austin.utexas.edu.
