Morris K. Udall Scholarship

The University of Texas at Austin has been invited to nominate qualified students to be considered for the scholarship. A committee of faculty and staff will review applications and select up to six nominees for the national competition. The Foundation does not accept applications directly from students.

About the Udall Foundation

The Udall Foundation seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice and economics. The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development and education.

In 2010, the Foundation expects to award 80 scholarships and 50 honorable mentions on the basis of merit to sophomore and junior level college students.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

  • be a current University of Texas at Austin student with sophomore or junior standing in the 2009-2010 academic year
  • have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • study the environment or a related field, or be a Native American or Native Alaskan studying health care or tribal policy.

Applying

Please submit the following materials to the University Honors Center. The University of Texas at Austin deadline is Thursday, February 4, 2010.

  • The Morris K. Udall Scholarship Nomination Information Form
  • An 800-word essay discussing a significant public speech, legislative act, or public policy statement by Congressman Udall and its impact on the applicant’s field of interest and career goals.
  • Three letters of recommendation, one from each of the following:
    • a current or recent faculty member who can discuss the nominee’s potential
    • a current or recent faculty member in the nominee’s field of study
    • another individual who can attest to the nominee’s capabilities.
  • Current academic transcript (unofficial is acceptable for the nomination process).
