Thermal Energy Storage Facility

Construction Dates: Spring 2009-Spring 2010

Details: The Thermal Energy Storage facility will be located in the F26 parking lot, just north of the San Jacinto Garage. A 100-foot diameter by 75-foot-high tank containing more than four million gallons of chilled water will be installed, supporting about a 41,000-ton-hour capacity.

Benefits to Campus: The tank will add capacity to the campus cooling system, allowing for increased overall efficiency.

Gas Turbine #10

Construction Dates: Summer 2008-Spring 2010

Details: Gas Turbine #10 will be located in the Power Plant Annex Building (PPA) on 24th Street just west of San Jacinto Street. The new unit will replace an existing gas turbine and boiler.

Benefits to Campus: Electrical generating capacity will be increased at this site from 14 megawatts to 34 megawatts, bringing the campus total capacity to about 140 megawatts.

Chilling Station #6

Construction Dates: Spring 2009 completion goal

Details: Chilling Station #6 is located at the site of the recently demolished east wing of Taylor Hall in the area between the Geology Building and the Power Plant Annex.

Benefits to Campus: This facility will replace the older and outdated Chilling Station #2 (CS2), and will allow CS2 to be demolished to make room for the Dell Computer Science Hall and Computer Sciences Building-Phase II.
