Training

Utilities and Energy Management Department is committed to the continuing education and personal development of our employees, and we offer classes to help you meet your personal and professional goals. To learn more about the types of required and optional training we offer, read the course descriptions below.

Required Training

The courses listed on this page are required for all or some of our employees. Read the details below to determine which courses you're required to take. You can log in to your training profile (EID required) to access online compliance training courses, or log in to TXClass and select the "Class Listings" link option in the menu on the left side of the page to view classroom training courses.

New Employee Welcome (PN 1000)

Required for all new university employees

Upon hiring our Personnel Division will register you for this introductory course on the university’s culture as well as an overview of the benefits, such as insurance and retirement programs, for eligible employees. Visit the Human Resource Services Web site for more information on this course and how to register.

Compliance Training (CW)

Required for all new university employees

All university employees are required to complete compliance training. Compliance training courses are available online, so employees can complete the training at their own pace. Log in to your training profile to access compliance training courses and find out what classes you currently need to complete.

Driver Training

Required for all employees who drive a university vehicle

Employees who drive a university vehicle must complete a driver’s training class every three years. The university offers online training through the “I Drive Safely” program. Call our Safety Office at 512-232-7531 if you need the login information for the online driving class. Employees who have taken a defensive driving course within the last three years may also provide the Safety Office a copy of the certificate. You may mail a copy of the certificate to Paul Willard at Campus Mail Code H8000.

UEM's Job Certification Training

Required for all utility employees

Upon hiring, all UEM employees will be subject to certification training for their job classification within the first 18 months of employment. The training program is composed of two components: 1) computer-based training on safety, operations, and maintenance; and 2) site-and-tool-specific training on the tools and equipment involved with your job title with a final exam to receive certification. UEM's Supervisor's and Manager's Training

Required for all utility employees

The supervisor’s and manager’s training program is designed for primary leaders within UEM, such as assistant directors, managers, supervisors, and non-supervisors who have an interest in a supervisory role in the future. Certification is also required within the first 18 months of employment. Please contact our Safety Office for registration at 512-232-7531.
