Construction Updates
Recent information
regarding campus construction projects and how they may affect you
• Fire Safety Systems - Whitis Ave between 24th St. and
27th St.
Construction is underway to run underground water lines for fire safety systems
and will continue into 2005. Parts of Whitis Ave. will be closed and
detoured during the winter semester break.
• University Child Care Center - Manor at Comal
A new UT child care facility is underway with completion expected in August 2005.
• Addition to the Experimental Sciences Building - Speedway
and 24th
Preparations for construction on the nano and molecular science addition
(CNM) began December 15, permanently closing the F15 lot north of the
building.
• Blanton Residence Hall Renovations - University
Ave N.
Construction continues on Phase One of Blanton improvements causing some
rerouting of traffic around University Ave N. This project
is scheduled for completion in June 2005.
• Gregory
Gym Aquatics Complex Construction - Speedway behind Gregory Gym
Scheduled for completion fall 2005. Required closure of the back
access road into lot

• New residence hall - 27th and Whitis
Construction is scheduled to begin in December-January on 27th St. between
Guadalupe and Whitis Ave. Some traffic rerouting is expected.
• Blanton Museum Construction - Jester
Circle and Brazos
Museum is scheduled for
completion in February 2006.
• Speedway Closure and Conversion to Pedestrian Mall
Architectural plans are currently being
evaluated. Speedway is now closed at MLK and Dean Keeton. The
Jester shuttle stop has moved to 23rd Street and San Jacinto. Speedway
at Dean Keeton will permanently close to vehicular traffic following the completion
of the Wet Lab Building in fall 2004. Closing Speedway to vehicles
is part of the Campus
Master Plan toward a more pedestrian-friendly campus.
