Office of the Vice President for Information Technology
President Powers has asked me to serve as Interim Chief Information Officer for the university at an exciting time for information technology on our campus. On August 21, 2009 he accepted and endorsed the Strategic Information Technology Advisory Committee (SITAC) final report and recommendations concerning a new strategic direction and focus for IT resources at the university.
SITAC listened to campus and created pragmatic and actionable recommendations relating to these strategic initiatives:
- Define IT Governance
- Build the New ITS Funding Model
- Establish Flexible Provisioning of IT Services
- Address Negative Perceptions of ITS
- Sustain and Grow the Network Infrastructure
- Sustain and Grow IT Security Capabilities
- Foster Sharing of Campus-wide IT Innovation
- Create Clear Vision and Direction for Instructional Technologies
- Enhance Administrative Systems
You can learn more about these initiatives and the work of the committee on the SITAC Web site.
I am looking forward to the positive results that implementation of the SITAC recommendations will bring to how we teach, learn, conduct research and go about the daily business of the university. I have no doubt that as a strategic priority for campus, IT will enable The University of Texas at Austin to excel in its mission of teaching, research, and service.
I hope you find this Web site useful. I encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas as we move forward in realizing the full potential of IT at the university.
