About the Office
The Office of the Vice President for Information Technology was created in 2001 with the mission to provide leadership for information technology at The University of Texas at Austin. The vice president/chief information officer (CIO) works with campus, community and corporate partners to build a shared vision in support of the university’s learning, research and public service missions. Specific focus areas include the promotion of best practices across the institution, facilitation of strategic vendor relationships and shared initiatives, and the development of a cost-effective, reliable and service-oriented technology infrastructure.
To meet this challenge, this office oversees three organizations tasked with the technology concerns of our campus:
- Information Technology Services (ITS)
- Information Security Office (ISO)
- Office of Telecommunication Services (OTS)
Responsibilities
The Office of the Vice President for Information Technology:
- Has executive responsibility for the Information Technology Services (ITS) department.
- Has executive responsibility for the Information Security Office (ISO).
- Shares executive responsibility for the Office of Telecommunication Services (OTS) office with UT System.
- Ensures the integrity and strategic development of the information/communications hardware infrastructure.
- Provides the systems infrastructure for mission-central functions and administration.
- Oversees development of education and training necessary to realize benefits of information technology.
- Provides leadership and vision for the use of information technology as a critical component of the future of the university.
- Promotes innovative, effective and shared uses of information technology solutions across the campus.
- Develops strategic relationships with various constituencies across the state of Texas as well as in the higher education and corporate communities.
- Serves on the Strategic Leadership Council for the UT System.
- Assumes other duties upon assignment or request by the president.
