Terry Tatum Named New ITS Associate VP for Customer Services

May 30, 2007

Brian Roberts, CIO and Vice President for Information Technology, announced that Terry Tatum, J.D., has accepted the position of Associate Vice President, Customer Services for Information Technology Services (ITS) and will assume his new responsibilities in July. “I am pleased to welcome Terry back to The University of Texas at Austin. His strong commitment to excellence in customer service and his deep roots here at the university will bring clear, innovative leadership to this important area of ITS.”

In his new role here at UT Austin, Terry will lead ITS groups including the Help Desk, User Services and Onsite Support. He will also oversee the creation and expansion of a new Education and Development Office focused on providing life-long learning opportunities for IT staff across campus.

Terry returns home to Austin and the university after almost a decade at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In his roles there—first as Director of IT Customer Services then as Assistant Vice President and Chief Technology Officer—Terry was responsible for the planning and implementation of end-user support including ResNet, desktop support, Helpdesk services and institutional buying programs. As a key member of the executive management team, he provided leadership on complex technical projects for the campus and had direct responsibility for Data Security, Desktop Support, IT Procurement, Instructional Technology and Customer Services.

Terry received both his BA in Accounting and Doctor of Jurisprudence from UT Austin, and then went on to work here for a number of years as a Help Desk Consultant, Systems Analyst, and finally Manager of the Help Desk. Many current ITS staffers will remember Terry when he worked at the Help Desk from 1996-2000.

The AVP for Customer Services position was created as part of the overall reorganization of Information Technology Services implemented earlier this year. Terry joins LB Brady, AVP, Business Services and Ron Williams, AVP, Operations to complete the senior leadership team for ITS.
