The $50k Keene Prize in Literature of the UT College of Liberal Arts was announced this week: David Semonchik, now in his second year in MCW's program in fiction, was the grand prize winner. MCW fellows Darri Farr (currently in her first year, in fiction) and Meg Freitag (graduating this spring in poetry) were runners-up along with UT Dept of English Ph.D. candidate Jenn Shapland. Congratulations to all! A reception honoring the winners is planned for Monday, May 11th at 5 pm at the Ransom Center.
1st year fiction fellow F.T. (Fatima) Kola has been shortlisted for the 2015 Caine Prize for African Writing for her first published story, "A Party for the Colonel," which appeared in ONE STORY last year. Kola was born in South Africa, grew up in Australia, and studied in London before joining our MFA program.
Two Michener Center alums are among the 2105 recipients of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation: poet Matthew Dickman, class of 2005, who currently resides in Portland, Oregon, and Kevin Powers, poet & novelist, who lives in Richmond, Virginia. Congratulations to both!
