Faculty Book Reading and Reception: Oscar Casares and John M. González

Thu, November 12, 2009 • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM • Blanton Auditorium, Edgar A. Smith Building (EAS), The University of Texas at Austin

Oscar Casares (Amigoland) and John M. González (Border Renaissance: The Texas Centennial and the Emergence of Mexican American Literature) will be reading and siging copies of their most recent publications.

Amigoland has been described by Publishers Weekly as a "winning novel...It's plain to see how love, borders, death-and most of all, willful ignorance--are part of everyday awakenings. With Casares' blessing, you can laugh at them all."

Border Renaissance has been described by John-Michael Rivera (Associate Professor and Chair, Department of English, University of Colorado at Boulder) as "a richly textured and well-crafted work that will stand as one of the best in the field of Mexican American literature."

Oscar Casares is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English and a Faculty Associate of the Center for Mexican American Studies; John M. González is an Associate Professor of English and a Faculty Associate of the Center for Mexican American Studies.

The book reading will take place in the Blanton Auditorium of the Edgar A. Smith Building.

Books from both authors will be available for purchase at the reception following the reading, courtesy of Bookwoman.

A reception will follow at El Mercado, 1702 Lavaca Street, Austin, Texas, from 5:15 pm to 6:30 pm.

Both events are free and open to the public.
