University Conference

Thu, November 13, 2008 • Joe C. Thompson Conference Center (southwest corner of E. Dean Keaton Street and Red River), UT Austin

The "Making Race, Making Health" conference explores the historical intersections between race-as ideology and as lived experience-health, and medicine. More than thirty scholars will convene to discuss the ways in which racial distinctions have been made or challenged in the production of medical knowledge and the making of health policy; the ways that imperial, transnational, and diasporic networks have been shaped by health policy and healing practices; and the ways that social movements have contributed to healthier living conditions and forced practitioners and policy makers to recognize treatments, conditions, or categories of illness that have been previously dismissed.

The "Making Race, Making Health" conference will take place at the Joe C. Thompson Conference Center on the campus of The University of Texas at Austin, November 13-15, 2008.
