The Map was Very Dark: Participatory Mapping and the Struggle for Land and Resources
Summary: Through participatory mapping, indigenous, Afro-descendant and other marginalized peoples harness the power of cartography to better represent their material cultures and conceptions of space and place. Drawing on experiences with participatory mapping projects in Venezuela, Dr. Bjorn Sletto will discuss the role of map-making in terms of memory, identity formation and representation.
