GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASSES FOR ADULTS & CHILDREN – FALL 2009
Registration is now open for the 12 week Fall semester of German language classes in Austin. All classes are held at the historic German Free School at 507 E. 10th St. Teachers include both professional German instructors from local public schools and native German speakers experienced in tutoring adults and children. Adult Classes: Four courses for adults are being offered, starting on September 9: Beginning Conversational German (12 week course) is on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm; Accelerated German (6 week course) is on Monday and Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm; German I (12 week course) is on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm; Advanced Conversational German (12 week course) is on Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.Costs vary; some classes require a textbook.
Children's Classes: The children's program, known as Samstagsschule (Saturday School), is held from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Saturday mornings, beginning on Saturday, September 12th. There are three levels of classes: Vorschule for kids ages 3-5, Grundschule for kids ages 6-8, and Mittelschule for kids ages 9-13. Lessons focus on comprehension and speaking for all age groups. Instructors use art, music, and games as well as traditional learning methods. Older children gain skills reading and writing in German. Depending on enrollment, some classes may be split into beginner and intermediate/advanced groups.
GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASSES BEGIN IN ROUND ROCK ON SEPTEMBER 14
Starting September 14, the German-Texan Heritage Society (GTHS) will offer a 12 week fall semester of German language classes in Round Rock. Both adult and children’s classes will be offered. All classes meet at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center, 1600 Gattis School Road, Round Rock, TX.
German I for adults is being offered. The 12-week class is held on Mondays, from 8:00 to 9:30 pm, September 14th through November 30th. The class emphasizes vocabulary acquisition, simple conversation and structure of the language. The cost of the adult classes is $65 for GTHS members and $75 for non-members. German I require the purchase of a self-teaching guide for $20. The registration deadline is September 4th.
Kids ages 6-12 are invited to join the children's program, known as Samstagsschule (Saturday School), which is held from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm on Saturday mornings at the at the Clay Madsen Recreational Center in the Multipurpose room. The 12-week sessions will be held from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm on Saturday mornings, beginning September 12 and December 5, 2009. Lessons focus on comprehension and speaking for all age groups. Teaching is done through games, songs and art, as well as through traditional teaching methods. The cost for a 12-week fall session (1 lesson per week) is $150 per student for GTHS members and $165 for non-members. Sibling discounts are available. Registration closes on August 31. Class size is limited, so please register early.
