Legislating Equality: The Politics of Antidiscrimination Policy in Europe, by Terri Givens and Rhonda Evans Case, has been published by Oxford University Press. The book analyzes the development of Europe's Racial Equality Directive, which requires European Union member states to legislate antidiscrimination policy. The directive's passage came following the immediate reaction to the electoral success of an extremist political party in Austria, but was developed in a broader context of rising racist, anti-immigrant sentiment and a movement toward European integration that created agenda space for racism and antidiscrimination policy.
