Preston "Pete" Geren is president of the Sid W. Richardson Foundation, a foundation that provides grants to educational, health, human service, and cultural nonprofit organizations in Texas. He assumed the position in July 2011, after serving as senior advisor and president-elect of the Foundation since March 2010. Prior to joining the Foundation, Geren served in the Department of Defense (2001-09) as: Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Acting Secretary of the Air Force, Under Secretary of the Army, and Secretary of the Army. He served four terms as a United States Congressman, 12th District of Texas (1989-97), and was formerly an assistant to U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen. Geren is a director of Texas Capital Bank and a member of the oversight board of the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). A lawyer and former business executive, he has held leadership positions in numerous civic, educational, business, and philanthropic organizations in Texas. He earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Texas Law School and his Bachelor of Arts in History at UT Austin. He studied architecture at Georgia Tech before transferring to UT. A Fort Worth native, he is married, has three daughters and one granddaughter.

Graduating Seniors Info: Students must arrive in academic regalia at the west-side loading dock entrance between 5:15-5:30 p.m.
Guests Info: Guests may enter the Bass Concert Hall from the south entrance (north from Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium). The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are not required."
Special Needs Guests Info: Guests in wheelchairs or with significant mobility challenges should arrive at 5:20 p.m. and go to the southwest side of Bass Concert Hall, so that they can be assisted to appropriate seating.

Parking: San Jacinto Garage and Manor Garage are closest to Bass Concert Hall.
Security: Backpacks, tote bags or any bags larger than 12 inches in any dimension will not be allowed into any of the Commencement venues. All other bags, including purses, camera cases and diaper bags will be searched by security officers before visitors are permitted to enter the South, Main, East and West Malls for the University-wide ceremony. These smaller bags are also subject to search at the college, school and departmental ceremonies. We strongly urge all attendees not to bring bags to any of the ceremonies unless they are absolutely necessary. Those visitors bringing smaller bags should expect delays in order to enter the venue and those with the prohibited larger bags will be turned away.
