The Race & Ethnicity Group (R&E) is pleased to announce an upcoming talk by Professor Naomi Paik (American Studies and Asian American Studies, UT Austin) at the R&E group meeting on Friday, April 25, 2014. The talk will occur from 3:30-5:00 pm in CLA 1.302D.
Professor Paik's talk, titled "Internment Remains: The 1988 Civil Liberties Act and the Re-formation of U.S. Racial Governance," will focus on a chapter from her forthcoming book and discuss the politics of redress, incarceration, and detention in the United States, particularly as they relate to the histories of Japanese American internment and Guantanamo. Professor Paik will also spend some time discussing her research methodology and especially her experiences using legal archives during her research.
In advance of the meeting, we ask that attendees read a chapter from Professor Paik's forthcoming manuscript. If you are interested in attending the talk and would like a copy of the chapter, please contact Vivian Shaw at firstname.lastname@example.org.
