Letisha Engracia Cardoso Brown is a PhD. student in the Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her main areas of interest are: race, embodiment, social relationships and sport. In 2011, a portion of her master’s thesis Sex, Drugs and Barbie: Gender Verification, Drug Testing and the Commodification of the Black Female Athlete” was awarded the Barbara Brown Outstanding Student Paper Award during the 2011 North American Society for the Sociology of sport Conference. Currently, her work on sport has manifested into a forthcoming paper in the South African Review of Sociology.

Letisha also works in the area of social relationships, and so her dissertation examines the connection between race, social relationships and food practices using in-depth interview data.
