Plan II Honors Internship Program at the Blanton Museum of Art - NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
Plan II offers an internship progam at the Blanton Museum of Art that is designed to provide undergraduates with experience in the nature and operations of a major art museum. The experience gained by interns will benefit them in their own research projects, in possible graduate studies, and even as a career option in such fields as librarianship, museum studies, archival or curatorial work, as well as public affairs, marketing, public programming and event management. Positions vary from year to year.
The internship will run with the academic year, September to May. A stipend of $1500 per semester will be provided by the Plan II Honors Program, for which the student is expected to work 10-12 hours per week. The position is not benefits-eligible. The student must be registered for a minimum of six hours of coursework in order to recieve the stipend.
The 2014-2015 Plan II Intern will serve in the Blanton's education department and will rotate throughout the year to support multiple educators on its staff. This will provide the Plan II Intern with a rare, comprehensive view of the museum education field and its many facets, including public programs, school and teacher programs, family and community programs, university programs, digital learning, and exhibition interpretation. The Intern will be invited to attend docent trainings and professional development programs designed for the museum's student workers. The Plan II Blanton Intern will have the opportunity to gain real world museum experience while contributing to a wide range of educational initiatives aimed at the museum's varied audiences.
Application deadline for the 2014-2015 Internship Position is 5pm on May 1, 2014.

Plan II students interning at the Blanton in past years have worked in a variety of areas including special creative projects, events and development. Harmonious Connections, a project by Plan II student Patty Huang, features original musical compositions created by graduate students from the UT Butler School of Music for select works of art in the Blanton Museum collection. These ekphrastic pieces are written as responses to, or depictions of, thematic and visual elements in these artworks, but also stand alone as individual works of art. These compositions create a living conversation between the visual and the aural—illustrating that various artistic mediums do not exist in a vacuum, but interact with each other. Discussion of these pieces will provide insight into the inherent fluidity existing between art, music, and all other mediums of expression. The focus of the Plan II/Blanton internship for the 12-13 year was the 2013 Blanton Gala and 50th Anniversary; the position was housed in the development department. The Gala Intern had the opportunity to gain real world museum administration experience and learn more about fundraising at a non-profit organization through assisting with the planning and production of multiple events and projects.
