Discussions Explore the Many Dimensions of Shakespeare's Works

To kick off next week's visit from the Actors from the London Stage with their five-handed production of "The Merchant of Venice," and the Shusterman Center's symposium on "Terezin" in the following week, James Shapiro, professor of English, Columbia University, will give a talk on "Imagining Jews in Shakespeare's England."

At 6.30 p.m., the English Department will host a panel discussion exploring the intersection of Shakespeare’s plays and their legal issues.

Panelists include:

  • Angela Littwin, University of Texas at Austin, School of Law
  • Alan Friedman, University of Texas at Austin, Department of English
  • James Loehlin, University of Texas at Austin, Department of English
  • James Shapiro, Columbia University, Department of English

There will also be performances of the courtroom scene from "The Merchant of Venice" by Spirit of Shakespeare, UT’s Department of Theatre and Dance, and award winning theatre company The Hidden Room. It will be at the Eidman Courtroom in the UT Law School with a catered reception before the evening’s festivities.
