Expertise: Huriya's research interests are related to the social and political dimensions of privatization and market-based reforms in education, especially school choice and its implications for equity and diversity. A second strand of research examines how research on such reforms is used by policymakers at the local, state, and federal levels. Huriya is currently working on several projects related to school choice and charter schools. Building on her dissertation research, she is examining competition for teachers in New Orleans schools, school-level marketing strategies, and the political economy of market-based reforms in New Orleans. In collaboration with researchers at the [link:http://educationresearchalliancenola.org/]Education Research Alliance-New Orleans[/link], she is working on a project analyzing student mobility from pre-Katrina to the present day, and on a project examining how schools form niches in the marketplace by examining school websites and teacher survey data.
