Visiting Artists Program presents lecture by Kate Gilmore

Kate Gilmore received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York and her Bachelors degree from Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. She has been the recipient of several international awards and honors, such as the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome (2007/2008), The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award (2009/2010), Rauschenberg Residency Award (2014), Art Matters Grant (2012), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Award for Artistic Excellence, New York, (2010), the Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance, New York (2006), The LMCC Workspace Residency, New York (2005), New York Foundation for The Arts Fellowship, New York (2012 and 2005), and the Marie Walsh Sharpe Space Residency, Brooklyn, New York (2010).  Gilmore has been in numerous notable exhibitions including a solo exhibition at Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland (2013), the Whitney Biennial (2010), The Moscow Biennial (2011), and PS1 Greater New York (2005 and 2010). Her work is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California; Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, North Carolina; Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana; Rose Art Museum, Waltham, Massachusetts; and Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois.  Gilmore is an Associate Professor of Art and Design at Purchase College, State University of New York and faculty in the MFA Fine Arts program at the School of Visual Arts.
