As part of the Web Central Services Retirement project, the ITS website will be retired. Information about IT services will be replaced by two new sites, IT@UT and UT ServiceNow, and ITS departmental information will be migrated to a new location. All changes will be completed by 7/28/2016.

Austin Active Directory

Administrative and Service Credentials

Austin Active Directory Administrative privileged login and service credentials are created by the Departmental Organization Unit (OU) Owners. Every login and service credential is the responsibility of the OU owner. During the OU creation process, WES staff will authorize the OU Owner's EIDs to create and manage login and service credentials.

OU Owners can create, delete and modify privileged credentials through the Departmental Admin Tools using their EID login.

Password requirements for privileged credentials are:

  1. Complexity: The password must contain 3 of each of the following types of characters:
    • upper-case
    • lower-case
    • numbers
    • special characters
  2. Expiration: Administrative credentials expire in 120 days; service credentials do not expire.
  3. Length: Passwords for administrative credentials must be at least 8 character long. Passwords for service credentials must be 16 character long.

OU Owners are responsible for all administrative and service credentials in their department. Credentials should be created only for IT staff directly responsible for Austin Computer services and for computer service accounts. All other non-privileged credentials must be created through the EID system. Security settings prevent user names from being created in departmental OUs.
