Joining a Windows 7 Computer to the Active Directory

Note: You must complete preparation steps before joining your computer to Austin Active Directory.

  1. Click the Start button, and select Control Panel.

  2. Double-click System.

  3. In the Computer name, domain and workgroup settings section, click Change settings.

  4. Click the Computer Name tab.

  5. In the Computer description field, enter a new computer name that complies with the Austin domain naming convention.

  6. Click Change.

  7. Ensure Domain is selected and enter "austin.utexas.edu" in the Domain field.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Enter the user name and password of your organizational unit's administrative account, and then click OK.

  10. Click OK twice and then click Yes.

  11. Restart the machine.
