Why does my Apple mobile device automatically connect to AT&TWiFi?

In some versions of Apple iOS when a device is configured to connect automatically to previously joined wireless networks the device will choose the first available network alphabetically. On campus this may cause your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to connect to the AT&T Wi-Fi Network (attwifi) in preference to utexas.

To prevent this from happening:

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap the blue arrow to the right of attwifi.
  4. Switch the Auto-Join tab to OFF.

This setting can only be changed while in range of the attwifi network.

To reconnect to attwifi you must manually connect to the network or reverse this setting.
