The University of Texas at Austin
As part of the Web Central Services Retirement project, the ITS website will be retired. Information about IT services will be replaced by two new sites, IT@UT and UT ServiceNow, and ITS departmental information will be migrated to a new location. All changes will be completed by 7/28/2016.

Setting Up a UTS Account

A Unix Timesharing Service (UTS) account is required for Web Central access and publishing on the Web Central Unix environment.

To request a new UTS account, please email the ITS Web Team,

After receiving the request, the ITS Web Team will create a UTS account assignment and share the login information to the account holder, the person for whom the account was created. The account holder must log in once to the server to select a personalized username and password. Information about logging in can be found at

Please note that all UTS account holders must be active university staff or faculty members. If an external developer needs access to the system, the department must sponsor the account and share the access information to the external developer for only as long as necessary.

The future UT Web hosting infrastructure will not use UTS accounts; instead, access and publishing permissions will be granted via UT EIDs for active university staff, faculty, or sponsored affiliates. After UT Web is in production, new sites will be published on UT Web rather than Web Central; existing Web Central sites and UTS accounts will continue to exist until Web Central is retired.
