Helping Our Newest Longhorns
This week Information Technology Services (ITS) began welcoming new fall 2013 students to campus. For the rest of the summer, incoming freshmen and transfer students will be participating in specially-designed orientation activities. All new students will be able to learn more about campus, meet their peers, register and sign-up for IT-related services, and consult with their academic advisors before registering for fall semester classes.
Special thanks go to the User Services team who are well prepared to greet new students, family, and friends arriving at the Flawn Academic Center and guide them to the ITS services they need. ITS Help Desk and ID Center staff are easy to identify because they have name tags and wear uniform clothing. These staff members are helping incoming students sign-up for UTmail, connect to the network, upgrade their UT Electronic ID (EID), explain how to use the UTprint service, and secure photo ID cards. There is always lots of excitement and many questions. It is fun to see us offering assistance and suggestions in ways that are helpful, resourceful, and fun.
ITS anticipates that increasing coordination with the Office of Student Affairs, improving line management techniques (including Twitter), and efficient delivery of ITS services will create positive first impressions.
As summer progresses and orientation continues, please freely answer questions, kindly offer directions, and happily share great stories of UT Austin's lore. You’ll be assuring our newest Longhorns that we really do care, truly want them to be successful, and that their journey ahead will be a great one, well worth taking.
