As part of the Web Central Services Retirement project, the ITS website will be retired. Information about IT services will be replaced by two new sites, IT@UT and UT ServiceNow, and ITS departmental information will be migrated to a new location. All changes will be completed by 7/28/2016.

Teleconferences (Retirement in Progress)


New Campus Voice Service: Campus is in the process of converting to a new telephone system. The conversion will be taking place one building at a time through summer 2015. TS offers "Meet-Me" teleconferences. You must schedule all teleconferences at least one day in advance.

Note: To allow departments more flexibility to schedule and control departmental conference call needs, ITS no longer offers 1-800 "Meet-Me" teleconferences. Please refer to The State of Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) for a list of DIR-approved teleconferencing services. Through these services, departments have exclusive use of the conference call bridge and the vendor bills the department directly.

To schedule a "Meet-Me" Teleconference, call Teleconference Operator Services at 512-232-CONF (2663).

In addition to the university's conference numbers, there are numerous conference calling services which claim to be "free" (Google "free conference call"). In testing, ITS has found most require all participants to place long distance calls (not free) and that some of the services cannot be called by certain VoIP providers (Google, magicJack, Speakeasy, etc.) due to their business models limiting their general use. University staff should be aware of their audiences when using these services.


  • Standard "Meet-Me" teleconferences allow each conferee to dial a local number to participate; conferees pay their own long distance charges.

As of April 15, 2014, Operator-Assisted Teleconferences will no longer be available.

Caveat for departments that operate their own telephone switches: At least one phone line used in the teleconference must be on the main UT telephone switch. If you are not sure which switch your phone is on, please call 471-7800.

  • Instead of traveling to a meeting, lecture, or presentation, you can attend via teleconference. You'll save between 0.6 and 1 pound of carbon emissions for each mile you would have traveled.

There is no setup fee for either standard "Meet-Me" teleconferences or operator assisted teleconferences. Long distance rates are applied as per the following table:
