The University of Texas at Austin
As part of the Web Central Services Retirement project, the ITS website will be retired. Information about IT services will be replaced by two new sites, IT@UT and UT ServiceNow, and ITS departmental information will be migrated to a new location. All changes will be completed by 7/28/2016.

Webcasts and Streaming Media

ITS provides live Webcasts and archival encoding of streaming media files for university departments, faculty, and staff. Using RealNetworks' G2 encoder, ITS can encode classroom lectures, presentations, meetings, satellite downlinks/uplinks, cable TV programs and special events originating on campus.

  • Produce Webcasts - real-time delivery of sound and video over the Internet.
  • Archive streaming media files.
  • Encode audio and video programming at bandwidths to serve a number of audiences, from 28 Kbps dial-up modem users to 220 Kbps campus LAN users.
  • Encoded Webcasts are viewable with RealPlayer.
  • Instead of traveling to a meeting, lecture, or presentation, you can watch a webcast. You'll save between 0.6 and 1 pound of carbon emissions for each mile you would have traveled.
Green Leaf Denotes a Green IT feature. Learn more about Green IT.

Encoding service is available at no cost to UT departments, faculty, and staff. Room charges (from the department that owns the room) may apply if you need a facility in which to produce streaming media programs.
