Alfred H. Bennett received his J.D. in 1991 from the University of Texas Law School. During his academic career, he was a member of the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society and the Student Bar Association, where he was President from 1990-1991. He is also the permanent class president for the class of 1991. Mr. Bennett previously received his B.S. in Political Science in 1988 from The University of Houston.
Mr. Bennett was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1991. He has also been admitted to the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern districts of Texas. He was an associate at Fulbright & Jaworski, L.L.P. in Houston from 1991 until 1994. Mr. Bennett then worked for the Houston firm of Solar & Fernandes, L.L.P. as an associate from 1994 until 1998. Mr. Bennett is currently a Solo Practitioner at the Law Offices of Alfred H. Bennett in Houston. He is also an adjunct professor of Law-Trial Advocacy at the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.
Mr. Bennett has been a member of the National Bar Association since 1988. He holds memberships with the State Bar of Texas and the Houston Lawyer’s Association, where he served as President and Chair of the Board of Directors from 1997 to 1998. Mr. Bennett is also a member of the Houston Bar Association, and has held memberships with the Texas Young Lawyer’s Association, the Houston Young Lawyer’s Association and the W.J. Durham Legal Society.
Mr. Bennett serves on many civic organizations: the East Downtown Management District, where he is a Director and Treasurer; the State Bar’s Lawyer Referral and Information Services Committee, where he is the Chair; the State Bar Grievance Committee 4A (formerly served); Parkwood Drive Civic Club, where he is a Director and First Vice President; and the University of Houston Alumni Association.
Mr. Bennett’s legal ability has been rated “AV” in the Martindale-Hubbell Legal Directory. He is the 1998 recipient of the Houston Lawyers Association Achievement Award, and the 1990 recipient of the Thurgood Marshall Legal Society Distinguished Service Award.
Mr. Bennett enjoys reading, golf, travel, and attending sporting events. He and his wife Tanyel, and sons Charles and Shane, reside in Houston.
