Rex received his B. A. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974 and his J. D. from the University of Texas School of Law in 1977. The highlight of law school was being a three year starter for Charlie Wright’s Legal Eagles.
After law school, Rex joined the Houston firm of Baker, Sharman and Wise (now Thompson & Knight) where he practiced business law.
In 1991, Rex and his family moved to Dripping Springs, Texas where he opened his own law practice. In 1994, Rex became the Justice of the Peace for Pct. 4 in Hays County where he served for 12 years. In 2004, he was appointed to the State Commission on Judicial Conduct and served as its Secretary, Vice Chairman and Chairman. He has also served on the State Bar Judicial Ethics Committee. He is a visiting professor for business and commercial law at Emanuel University Oradea, Romania and is a faculty member of the Texas Justice Courts Training Center. Rex’s memberships include the University of Texas Liberal Arts Foundation Advisory Council; Executive Committee, University of Texas Chancellor's Council; Member, Board of Directors of the University of Texas Foundation; Board Member and President, Ex-Students Association of University of Texas (Houston Chapter); Board Member and President, Southwestern Title Company.
