Travis J. Sales, ’87, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the State Bar of Texas. The State Bar’s board of directors is that organization’s governing body, which is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.

Sales is a litigation partner at Baker Botts LLP in Houston, Texas. He joined the firm in 1987 and became partner in 1995. Sales specializes in products liability and commercial litigation. He has represented pharmaceutical companies in several mass tort product liability actions. Mr. Sales graduated from the University of Texas (BBA 1984 with Highest Honors and JD 1987 with High Honors). At the University of Texas, Sales was president of the Silver Spurs Honorary Service Organization and received the Outstanding Student Award. At UT Law School, Sales was a member of the Texas Law Review and Order of the Coif. He was Grand Chancellor in 1986.

Sales is a member of the University of Texas Law Alumni Association Executive Committee, and currently serves as the 2008–2009 Houston Bar Association president. He previously served the Houston Bar Association as president-elect (2007–2008), treasurer (2006–2007), second vice president (2005–2006), secretary (2004–2005) and director (2001–2003). He received the HBA President’s Award in 1992 and 2002. Sales was chair of the Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program (2007–2008) and president of the Houston Lawyer Referral Service (2004–2005). He is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute. Sales served on the editorial board of the Texas Bar Journal (2004–2006).
