The Abuse Survivors Assistance Program will be selling tickets for the annual Pumpkins & Poker tournament in the Tom Clark Lounge or the Atrium every day starting Wednesday, Oct. 2nd until Thursday, Oct. 10th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm.

A $15 ticket ($20 at the door) gets you into the raffle for a bunch of awesome prizes, a free t-shirt, a free drink ticket, and a bag of chips to play your poker heart out. Non-players get a raffle ticket and a t-shirt or drink ticket for only $10 ($12 at the door).

There are currently more than 1.4 million Syrian refugees and 4.5 million internally displaced persons. Many of these refugees live in abject squalor in camps far from their homes. Join us to learn more about the situation and the roles humanitarian, human rights, and immigration law have played in shaping it. Our speakers will include Professor Denise Gilman, former Director of the Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project at the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs and Director of the Immigration Clinic; Professor Michael Churgin, an expert on immigration law; and Alex McLelland, a graduate student focusing on Syria at the UT Middle Eastern Studies Program. Light refreshments will be served.

The Environmental Law Society presents: Pro Tips for New Associates & Ethical Considerations for All Attorneys & Future Lawyers

Speakers: Tim Wilkins, Vic Ramirez, Katie Bennett, and Martha Landwehr

Tim Wilkins, head of Bracewell & Giuliani’s firm-wide Environmental and Natural Resources practice group, and Vic Ramirez, associate general counsel at the Lower Colorado River Authority, will speak on ethics issues, which may include: professionalism, communications with clients/opposing counsel, confidentiality of information, candor towards the tribunal, and revolving door issues. Katie Bennett, associate at Katten Muchen Rosenman LLP, and Martha Landwehr, general counsel for the Texas Chemical Council, will give practice pointers to new and future attorneys, including tips for communicating with partners and clients, preparing useful work product, navigating law firm/government politics, and interfacing with staff and co-counsel. This is a great opportunity for students to meet environmental lawyers in the Austin area!

Time and Date: Thursday, October 3, at 4:00–5:00 pm followed by Happy Hour at Double Dave's (3000 Duval).
