A. Mechele Dickerson is a nationally recognized bankruptcy law scholar and a global media expert on consumer debt. Her current research focuses on housing, student loans and other consumer debt, and the financial challenges facing the US middle class. Professor Dickerson joined the faculty in January 2006 and served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2006-2011.
Professor Dickerson teaches Remedies, Federal Civil Procedure, and Economic Justice at the law school and teaches an undergraduate seminar called Good Debt, Bad Debt, Ugly Debt.
Professor Dickerson was a law clerk for Judge Nathaniel R. Jones of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and practiced law in Washington, D.C. and Norfolk, Virginia before joining the law faculty at the College of William and Mary. Professor Dickerson is an elected member of the American Law Institute.
