This short five-week course will introduce students to international development non-governmental organization (NGO) project/program design. We will start with an overview of the principles of project design in relation to their role and application to international community development work. Then we will focus more intensively on key aspects of project planning and design: 1) Macro-level poverty mapping, 2) participatory approaches, gender, and relational analysis, and 3) setting goals, objectives and developing a logical framework. The course will be very hands-on in nature. Students will choose a focus country from five countries (Kenya, Malawi, Honduras, Cambodia, or Tajikistan) for their class focus and writing assignments.
Class will meet from November 2 through November 30, 2011.
