Liu Honored with Scott Medal

Photo of LIUDr. Hung-wen (Ben) Liu, professor of medicinal chemistry, has received the A.I. Scott Medal from Texas A&M University.  The award recognizes excellence in biological chemistry research and was presented at an October gathering at College Station.

Liu, who holds the George Hitchings Regent Chair in Drug Design, has served on the medicinal chemistry faculty of the UT College of Pharmacy since 2000.  His research focuses on clarifying the chemical mechanisms of enzymes that influence unusual and physiologically important steps in the biosynthetic pathways of natural products.

The Texas A&M section of the American Chemical Society and the A&M Chemistry Department established the award in 2008.  It honors A. Ian Scott, an internationally acclaimed and pioneering chemist recognized nationally for his work in field of biosynthetic investigation.
