During the 2014-2015 school year, I sample the math symbol and vocabulary knowledge of students in 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades by collecting data from 12 classrooms at each grade level. I learn (a) which symbols and vocabulary cause the most difficulty for students, (b) which demographic and achievement factors influence symbol and vocabulary interpretation, and (c) how symbol and vocabulary knowledge influences math performance.
RAs must have availability during elementary and middle school hours (7:30a-3:30p).
RAs must enjoy working with young students. RAs must be responsible, punctual, and organized.
RAs will help with recruitment of teachers starting in October 2014. As teachers agree to participate, RAs go into school classrooms and administer math assessments with classrooms of students. RAs then enter student scores in databases. All testing finishes by April 2015.
Now that you've used EUREKA to identify a project of interest to you, read about getting involved in research at The University of Texas at Austin.
The Office of Undergraduate Research recommends that you attend an info session before contacting faculty members or project contacts about research opportunities. We'll cover the steps to getting involved, tips for contacting faculty, funding possibilities, and options for course credit.
If you aren't able to attend an info session, contact the Office of Undergraduate Research to schedule an appointment with an advisor.
Once you have attended an Office of Undergraduate Research info session or spoken to an advisor, you can use the "Contact Details" for this project to get in touch with the project leader and express your interest in getting involved.
