Dr. Philip “Phil” Sanger is a co-founder of TEXO Ventures, a healthcare venture capital firm that has invested in and built a variety of innovative healthcare companies. Dr. Sanger worked as a pulmonary and critical care specialist for over 25 years and has dedicated his career not only to helping patients, but to supporting healthcare entrepreneurs, ensuring that new, superior products and services become available to patients and the healthcare community.
Dr. Sanger serves as a voluntary member of multiple critical care, utilization review, quality assurance, and executive committees around Texas to share some of the best practices he has learned over the years. He also works with the University of Texas at Austin and various local organizations in order to mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs.
After receiving his B.A. in political science from the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Sanger went on to receive his doctor of medicine from Texas Tech. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency at the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston, TX and served as Chief Pulmonary Fellow at the University of California San Francisco.
Dr. Sanger recently gave a generous gift in honor of the legacy of his parents, Philip and Marjorie Sanger, and his aunt and uncle, Morton and Hortense Sanger, to the School of Undergraduate Studies’ Sanger Learning Center. This gift allowed for the renovation of tutoring facilities and founded the Sanger Learning Assistance Fund, which provides for the hiring of a strategic learning specialist. When fully funded, this specialist will meet the needs of students who struggle with learning disabilities and help them succeed academically.
