George Lipsitz is a leading American Studies scholar and a professor in the Department of Black Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.  His highly influential thinking about social movements, urban culture, inequality, the politics of popular culture, and whiteness studies has appeared in classic texts such as The Possessive Investment in Whiteness, Midnight at the Barrelhouse, Footsteps in the Dark, A Life in the Struggle, Time Passages, Dangerous Crossroads, American Studies in a Moment of Danger, Rainbow at Midnight, Sidewalks of St. Louis, and Class & Culture in Cold War America. 

Hosted by the Center for Asian American Studies with support from the English Department, the Center for Mexican American Studies, John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies, and the Department of American Studies.
