On behalf of the Association for Asian American Studies (AAAS), and the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, we invite nominations for community service awards to honor individuals, organizations, and specific projects that have made outstanding contributions to Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) communities, preferably in Central Texas.  We aim to acknowledge and to honor those who have assumed leadership roles in advocating for APIDA and immigrant causes, providing services and outreach, fostering community and history, and promoting awareness of APIDA issues.  Honorees will receive their commemorative plaques at the AAAS Annual Conference awards reception that will be convened in Austin on April 10, 2010. 

The deadline for nominations is Nov. 30, 2009.  Please complete the attached nomination form and send it by email to aas@austin.utexas.edu or by fax to 512-232-7136.  Self-nominations are welcome.  For more information, please contact Kenyatta Dawson at kydawson@mail.utexas.edu. Honorees will be notified by Jan. 30, 2010. 

WHO CAN BE NOMINATED?
Individuals, organizations, and specific projects that have made outstanding contributions to Central Texas Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) communities.
 
WHO CAN SUBMIT A NOMINATION?
Any individual or members of an organization. Self-nominations are allowed.

SELECTION PROCESS
Recommendations for selection will be made by an annually appointed Community Awards Submission Committee. The Community Awards Submission Committee will make final selections based on the recommendations received.

DEADLINE
Nominations must be received by: Midnight, Monday, November 30, 2009

ANNOUNCEMENT OF RECIPIENTS
Recipients will be notified via email and will be announced in the late spring. Awards will be presented at the next Association for Asian American Studies Conference during the AAAS Reception during the evening of, April 10, 2010.  The AAAS Conference will be from April 7-11, 2010.

THE NOMINATION SUBMISSION
The submission package should provide enough detail to appropriately and informatively describe the achievement and nominee. The Community Awards Submission Committee may, however, request additional information, if needed.
