Book Signing and Lecture: John Tutino

Tue, March 5, 2013 • 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM • Conference Room (SRH 1.115), Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, Sid Richardson Hall, The University of Texas at Austin

Join us for a book signing and lecture with John Tutino, Professor, Department of History and the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

Professor Tutino will discuss his new edited volume, Mexico and Mexicans in the Making of the United States, which is part of the CMAS History, Culture & Society Series. Tracing economic, social, and cultural connections from colonial times until today, this edited volume highlights the foundational contributions of Mexico and Mexicans to the United States—Hispanic capitalism, patriarchy, and mestizaje, or ethnic blending.

Professor Tutino's previous books include Making a New World: Founding Capitalism in the Bajío and Spanish North America and From Insurrection to Revolution in Mexico: Social Bases of Agrarian Violence, 1750–1940.

The event is co-sponsored by the University of Texas Press, the Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, and the Center for Mexican American Studies.
