30th Annual Caldwell Kolache Festival
Sat, September 13, 2014 • 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM • Caldwell, Texas
The Kolache Festival is an annual celebration of the revitalization of Czech heritage. This festival honors Burleson County's history as a Czech settlement and seeks to share the beauty, talent, and delight of the Czech people. Traditional Czech quilting, woodcraft, carving, and sculpting, as well as polka dancing and authentic Czech cuisine, are featured in the festival.
The Kolache Festival will begin at 9 AM with a prayer, a flag ceremony, and performances of "The Star-Spangled Banner," "Texas Our Texas," and the Czech national anthem "Kde Domov Můj," with local, state, and national dignitaries in attendance. Activities at the festival include the Parade of Costumes, a kolache-eating contest, the State Championship Kolache Bake Show Awards, a street rod and classic car show, an antique machinery and tractor show, and musical performances by the Original Kolache Festival Band, the SPJST Youth Beseda Dancers, the Shiner Hobo Band, and Edward Kopecky's Fun Time Czech Band. Vendors will be selling crafts and Czech food throughout the festival.
There will be a pre-festival party on Friday, September 12 from 5:30-11 PM at the Burleson County Expo, with music performed by The Moravians, and a post-festival party from 7-11 PM on Saturday at the Old Post Office in downtown Caldwell, with music performed by the Black Cat Choir.
