The Essentials of Azerbaijani: An Introductory Course

Azerbaijani (also referred to as Azeri) is the official language of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is spoken natively by approximately 7 million people in the country as well as 20-40 million individuals in the surrounding areas of Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Uzbekistan. A member of the Western (or Oghuz) Turkic language group (which includes Turkish and Turkmen), the Azerbaijani language has a literary history dating back to the end of the thirteenth century.

In 2007, CREEES completed this introductory course for the Azeri language.  Please send us your feedback on your use of this text.
