Annual WGS Awards

The applications for our annual Women's & Gender Studies awards are now available through UT Direct! We strongly encourage you to apply before the day of the deadline: March 25th 2011. Here are the awards you can apply for:

Lora Romero Memorial Graduate Award for Interdisciplinary Research in Race, Ethnicity and Gender
This scholarship is an annual award created in memory of former UT colleague Lora Romero. The award will honor and support students investigating the intersections between race, ethnicity and gender. Scholarship of up to $500 to be awarded at the Annual Spring Reception in late April/early May, date TBA.

Ellen Clarke Temple Award In the Study of Women in History
This award is given to graduate students affiliated with WGS in support of student’s travel, research, and other similar needs in the study of the history of U.S. women. Preference will be given to those concentrating their studies on some aspect of women in Texas history. Secondary preference will be given to students concentrating their studies on some aspect of women in American history, looking first to the Southwest region of the United States. The awards (up to $3000 each) will be presented at the annual Women’s and Gender Studies Spring Reception in late April/early May, date TBA.


Women's and Gender Studies Dissertation Fellowships
This is a fellowship for doctoral students writing dissertations on topics related to women's and gender studies. Students who are enrolled in the WGS Ph.D. Portfolio Program are eligible. One or two awards will be made, as determined by the selection committee. The awards (up to $1250 each) will be announced at the Women's and Gender Studies Spring Awards Reception in late April/early May, date TBA.

Cynthia Walker Peña Scholarship

The application for the Cynthia Walker Peña Scholarship awards for undergraduate students is now available through UT Direct. The Cynthia Walker Peña Scholarship in Women's and Gender Studies is awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has earned distinction in Women's and Gender Studies scholarship and service (with an emphasis on service). Scholarship of up to $250 to be awarded at the Annual Spring Reception in late April/early May, date TBA. For more info and application, please visit this site.
