Ndiya Onuoha

Biography

Ndiya's background in the social sciences & adolescence has led her to focus her research on academic counseling of at-risk teens. Her understanding that research is fundamental to learning effective counseling measures has guided her to pursue a Master's degree in Educational Psychology with a specialization of Counselor Education. If granted, Ndiya desires to work with Professor Kevin Cokley.  Professor Cokley's interest in the area of African American psychology, with a focus on racial and ethnic identity development and how it correlates to academic achievement, is something Ndiya is interested in researching too. She believes that working with him will broaden her understanding of African American at risked teens and their academic success. She wants a better understanding on this topic so she can further aid in the succession rate of teens from an at risked environment.
