CMAS Graduate Portfolio Plática: Corina Zavala Lopez

"Crystal City Women’s Experiences During the Chicano Movement-Four Women’s Recollection"

Wed, April 25, 2012 | Meeting Room 1.106, Student Activity Center, The University of Texas at Austin

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

In December 1969, the students of Crystal City High School walked out of their classes in demand of change. While these younger Chicanos walked out, four women were watching while working at the schools. These women witnessed from afar the bravery and determination of younger Chicanas risking a lot for their future. This portfolio plática by Corina Zavala Lopez tells of these four women’s experiences during the time before and after the walkout.

Corina Zavala Lopez is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (Cultural Studies in Education) with a Graduate Portfolio in Mexican American Studies. The chair of her dissertation committee is Douglas Foley, Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
