AGSA Graduate Research Symposium: "New Directions in Anthropology"

This spring the Anthropology Department and the Anthropology Graduate Student Association with be holding its first student conference as part of an effort to create community among students and to share our research with one another. The conference will be held April 25-26 and will feature panel presentations, a poster session and a special keynote. UT anthropology graduate students from all subfields are invited to take advantage of this professional opportunity to discuss their work with colleagues and receive feedback.
Presentations and Posters should showcase current and ongoing research by UT anthropology graduate students in any subfield. There will be four panels for paper presentations, one each for physical anthropology and archeology papers, and two panels for papers from social anthropology and related areas (folklore, linguistic anthropology, diaspora and borderlands programs, etc). Each panel will include three to four 15- to 20-minute papers followed by a discussant and time for questions and comments. The poster session will be on Friday during the reception. The deadline for submission is February 12th, 2008 and submitters will be notified of acceptance by March 14th. Abstracts for papers should be limited to 300 words and should be accompanied by a brief bio stating research interests, subfield, year in the program, and contact information (e-mail and phone). Poster proposals should be similar, but the email title should specify that they are for the poster session.
