Biography

Jermaine Thibodeaux is currently a fourth-year graduate student in the Department of History.  A native of Houston, Texas, Jermaine attended Cornell University (2004), where he was selected as a Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow.  After earning an A.B. in History, with a certificate in the law and society program, Jermaine returned to Texas to teach middle school History and English. In the coming years, Jermaine hopes to complete a dissertation that interrogates the lives of "privileged slaves" during slavery and freedom in the Deep South. His intellectual interests  also broadly consider notions of masculinities, class formation, and political and social leadership among the enslaved. He will be trained in early American, southern, and African American history.
