Gov. Perry appoints Prof. H.W. Brands to Lincoln Bicentennial Commission

Prof. H.W. Brands is a distinguished professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the Dickson Allen Anderson Professor in the Department of History. He formerly taught at Texas A and M University and was holder of the Melbern G. Glasscock Chair in American History.

Brands' has authored 19 books, edited four, and published a number of articles and reviews. Brands' biography of Benjamin Franklin, The First American was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and was also a New York Times bestseller. He is a member of the Society of American Historians and the Philosophical Society of Texas. A graduate of Stanford University, Brands received a doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
